“I'm reading the market so well today. Why would I stop now?”
Have you caught yourself thinking this?
Why does stopping after a winning session sometimes feel like walking away from an opportunity you still deserve?
What's happening psychologically?
Winning creates its own pressure. When several trades work, the trader may feel unusually connected to the market. Decisions seem clearer and continuing feels natural. Stopping can feel like interrupting something valuable.
The mind interprets recent success as evidence that favourable conditions will continue. Confidence may begin changing the rules for when the session ends.
The danger is not being profitable. It is allowing profitability to become permission to trade outside the boundaries you originally set.
Often preceded by
Consecutive wins, profitable sessions, excitement, strong confidence.
May involve
Reward reinforcement, overconfidence, recency bias, difficulty disengaging.
Can lead towards
Overtrading, giving back profits, exceeding session limits, declining trade quality.
Catch it
Notice when the reason to continue becomes how well you've traded so far rather than whether a valid new setup exists.
Interruption question
“If I were starting my session right now, would this next trade still meet my criteria?”
When this thought might be reasonable
Continuing during favourable conditions can be legitimate within planned hours, risk limits and entry criteria.
